Spore an anti-creationism game?

So while surfing one of my usual forums I stumbled across a certain thread on a website that has been set up by a Christian woman against Will Wright and EA for their game Spore because she believes it targets children specifically so as to destroy the theory of creationism. Here’s some particular snippets:

“I even promise to pray for those that don’t agree with what the Bible teaches us.”

“I am not surprised by the treatment I have received at the hands of the non-believers”

“I understand that some people get pretty defensive when they know they are wrong.”

She also posted a video from YouTube:

“Listen to this poor misguided girl talk about evolution after playing Spore.

It really makes me sad… I hope that somehow I can prevent more damage from being done.”

Now, i’m all for people believing in what they want to believe but telling people they’re misguided? Promising to pray for non-believers? I’m afraid i’m strongly against that.

I realize that the whole “video games promote violence, racism and religion hating” thing is already widely disputed, but honestly. Maxis and EA have both assured people, worried about the games evolutionary themes, that the game is purely to give players something they haven’t experienced before, a game world where the player creates it’s inhabitants. Alot of devoted Christians have also claimed that they have no problem with the game, after playing it and seeing that there is no biased views towards evolution or creationism. She’s fairly hypocritical, though, in saying that Sim City was an amazing game that gave you God like powers.

Anyway though, if she wants to believe that I have nothing against it. At least I hope I don’t…

  1. Obviously it would be good if EA did manage to produce an entetaining game that taught kids about evolution at the same time.

This isn’t what it does, however. The model of evolution is limited to what would make an entertaining game.

There is a website called antispore.com that appears for all the world to have been started by some frothing creationist loony, but he’s so over the top that I’m sure it’s just a promotion run covertly by EA.
